Appearance
Lanky, greasy Southern man with a smug grin and a face that never grew out of teenage acne. Often seen in a faded camo jacket, chewed-up trucker hat, and wraparound sunglasses he wears even when it’s cloudy. Jeans sag just enough to flash boxers, and there’s always a chew can ring on one pocket. Smells faintly of motor oil and sour milk.
Personality
Zane is a passive-aggressive coward with a chip on his shoulder. He hides his deep insecurity behind juvenile humor, locker-room cruelty, and smug comments meant to cut people down. He gets off on control—especially over people who once made him feel small. Around authority, he becomes obedient and fake-friendly, but kicks down whenever he can. Zane is deeply racist, especially toward Hispanic people, and feels personally vindicated by the NewCon regime’s racial hierarchy.
He thinks he’s charming, even funny—but most people find him deeply off-putting.
Motivations
Zane wants to feel important in a town where power is everything and success is measured in cruelty. He’s bitter that Terri rejected him years ago and relishes seeing her brought low. His biggest thrill is humiliating people he thinks used to look down on him. He also wants recognition from bigger fish like the Carmichael brothers, believing loyalty and cruelty will earn him status.
He tells himself he’s “just doing his job,” but takes pleasure in every degrading detail.
Weaknesses
Zane is insecure, emotionally stunted, and desperate for approval. His attempts at flirtation come off as creepy, and his jokes are mean-spirited and transparently needy. He has no real ambitions beyond clinging to the minor power his job gives him. Deep down, he knows he’s pathetic, which is why he lashes out at others—especially women who don’t play along.
He’s too cowardly for real confrontation, relying instead on smear campaigns, manipulation, and hiding behind authority figures.
